No luck with casual dating apps — what’s going wrong?
Casual dating apps are supposed to be about finding people for no-strings-attached fun, skipping the drama and commitment of a full-on relationship. That sounded perfect to me, so I decided to give online casual dating a shot and signed up for a few platforms.
But, honestly, it’s been kind of a letdown. For whatever reason, I barely get any responses. You could argue about profile pics all day, but I find it weird that so few women reply to my messages. And when someone does respond, the convo usually fizzles out after a couple of messages.
My takeaway? Even after weeks of trying, I haven’t met anyone in person through these casual dating sites. Has anyone else had this experience? What’s your take on hookup apps?
I knew going in that there’s no guarantee of success with these platforms, but it’s still a bit discouraging. The money spent on subscriptions is the least of my worries. What bugs me more is this weird vibe I get from these sites. Is it really possible that none of these hookup apps work and they’re all just full of fake profiles? Or do you have to look like a model to even stand a chance as a guy on these platforms?
If you’re not getting any luck on hookup or casual sex dating sites, it usually comes down to a few key things — and most of the time, the real problem is how you’re presenting yourself.
Maybe you don’t have any decent photos up, or the ones you do have are low-quality / unflattering? You’ve got to make your profile as attractive and tempting as possible to women. Especially when a woman is just looking for sex, she usually wants a guy who gives off a bit of mystery — maybe even a hint of that “bad boy” or naughty edge.
From what I’ve seen: the average, vanilla, lights-off bedroom sex guy is NOT what most women are hunting for on casual platforms. And the golden rule still applies: the more desperate or needy you come across, the less likely you are to pull the hot, confident women you actually want.

Women who are into hookup/dating apps usually go for the mysterious gentleman vibe — someone eloquent, who knows how to express himself and has a bit of intrigue.
I'm just gonna say it: your profile was probably straight-up boring.
If I were a woman looking purely for a toyboy (which I'm not), then things like looks would be the most important thing to me by far. So if you don't have a handsome face, you're not muscular, maybe even on the skinny/slight side, or if you've got hair loss and a bald head, those are already pretty bad starting points for casual sex dating.
