How long does a relationship typically last?

What are your experiences with how long a relationship typically lasts? How long have your relationships usually lasted before they ended? I've mostly had longer relationships with one partner. My shortest was about six months, and my longest was around 7 years. None of my partnerships lasted longer than that. The seven-year relationship was definitely an exception!

The duration of a relationship primarily depends on the attitudes of the partners. If both are only interested in having fun and a small conflict arises, the relationship can end quickly. On the other hand, if both want a shared future and are willing to work on themselves, nothing stands in the way of a long-lasting relationship. That was certainly the case for me and my husband; we have been happily married for 30 years, and there’s no end in sight. I believe that in the first few years, it becomes clear whether two people can live together or not, which is why many relationships end within the first three years. During this time, couples travel together or set up their first home together, and that’s when they realize how the other thinks and acts in everyday life.
