My name is Deion, and at eighteen years old, I’m finally learning what it feels like to step into myself without apologizing for it. I grew up on the south side of the city, in a neighborhood where everybody knew everybody, and where minding your business was almost impossible. Still, that place shaped me. It taught me how to read people, how to stay grounded, and how to find humor even when life felt heavy. Being a gay Black man hasn’t always been easy. For a long time, I tried to blend in, to shrink myself so nobody would look too closely. But hiding gets exhausting. Little by little, I started choosing honesty over fear. I came out to my best friend first, then my cousin, and eventually my mom. Each time, I felt a little lighter, like I was peeling off layers that were never mine to carry. I’m quiet, but not shy. I like observing the world before I jump in. Music is my escape especially old‑school R&B my mom played every Saturday morning. When I need to clear my head, I sketch. Most of my drawings are of people I see on the bus or at school, moments that feel small but say something real. I want to study graphic design and create art that reflects people like me queer, Black, and full of stories that deserve to be seen. I don’t have everything figured out, but I’m walking forward with purpose, pride, and a sense of who I’m becoming.

My name is Deion, I’m eighteen, and if there’s one thing I’ve learned about myself, it’s that I’m done pretending to want what other people expect from me. I know who I’m attracted to, and I’m not shy about saying it anymore. I’m a gay Black man who’s drawn to big, heavyset Black men the kind of men who take up space and don’t apologize for it. Growing up, I didn’t have the words for that. I just knew I felt safer, calmer, and more myself around men built like that. It took me a long time to admit it out loud. Where I’m from, people talk, and not always kindly. But hiding gets old. I reached a point where I realized that my happiness matters more than anyone’s opinion. So now, I’m honest about what I like. I’m looking for someone who’s confident in his size, someone who laughs easily, someone who understands what it means to move through the world as a Black man and still find joy.
I’m not rushing anything. I’m focused on finishing school, building my art portfolio, and figuring out my next steps. But I’m also open to connections, open to learning, open to meeting someone who sees me for who I am. I want someone who’s gentle but strong, someone who knows how to hold space for others, someone who doesn’t mind being seen.
I’m still growing, still learning, but I’m proud of the direction I’m heading. And I’m ready for whatever comes next.
